ABOUT
Alejandro Cortés is an ASC Award winning cinematographer based in NYC.
Born and raised in Mexico, he has over a decade of experience shooting narrative and documentary films, as well as commercial and branded content.
Some of his recent credits include "Black Girls Play: The Story of Handgames", shortlisted for the 2024 Oscars and winner of Best Documentary Short at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2023.
In 2022, Alejandro was selected by the American Society of Cinematographers for the Vision Mentorship Program.
His clients include brands like National Geographic, Disney +, Harper's Baazar, Amnesty International, , AT&T, and A-List talent such as Alicia Keys, Anya Taylor-Joy, J Balvin, Cyndi Lauper, Issa Rae, Yola, Julianne Hough, to name a few. He has been featured in American Cinematographer and Filmmaker Magazine, as well as some of the most important newspapers in Mexico.
His work has produced several awards around the world, including the 2018 ASC Haskell Wexler Heritage Award for outstanding cinematography in documentary for "Adrift", a short that was also in consideration for the Academy Awards in 2019.
Alejandro is known for his sensitivity and passion for portraying humanitarian stories that shine light to social issues. He is constantly looking for new challenges and opportunities to explore the human condition through the visual arts.
